just the 2 of us

So, the last weekend in March, Eric and I took off for 3 nights away from home!!! We had never been a way from the kids overnight. Seeing as Noah is 6, you can see it's been a while!! HA! We rented a car from Enterprise (woohoo! we love you enterprise!) and ended up with a 2008 Chevy Cobalt! It was a pretty sweet ride and we quickly decided someday - when the kids are gone - we'll go back to a nice small 4 door sedan-ish kind of vehicle!! We stayed downtown Seattle and had a GREAT time... we saw some friends, slept in, ate out, lounged around, shopped, ate, shopped, and ate some more... walked downtown and Pikes Place... and just really ENJOYED being together.

Being "mom and dad" 24/7 can take quite a drain on a marriage. It can be hard to see past the day to day duties and the "who's doing what" with which kid, which night and for how long.... to really see the person that we fell in love with. I think too often I start to see the things I'm lacking in my relationships instead of the blessings that I've been given! How awesome it was, to be the center of each other's attention for a few days - to relish in one anothers arms w/o a kid or two, or three smooshing in between and hanging on our legs or pulling on our pant legs... to just BE. We enjoyed spontanaeity and freedom.... which was so refreshing...We visited old haunts from our dating days and relived some fun memories - our first date, the place Eric proposed.... our old apartment and shopping places...

We DID miss the KIDS and were so ready to come home! Eric's mom watched the kids for us and they were SO very good for her. Poor Joey ended up sick the night before we got home so he was a sight for sore eyes when we walked in... But it was super sweet to walk in, quietly walk down the stairs, peek around the corner, and here "mmmmooooooooommmmmyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ddddaaaaadddddyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :)

Coming bck to the real world was..... well, just that.. the REAL world.. it hits ya by surprise.... and yet it feels so familiar....

We're determined to get away like this - a few days - at least once a year. We pledged to NEVER let it go 6 years again! :) It was such a healthy thing for us as a couple and that's affected how we are as MOM and DAD too.... Truly a WIN WIN situation!!! :)
